After 15 years anchoring 90 Haddon Avenue, Keg & Kitchen officially closed its doors in early January as its owners stepped into retirement. For many locals, it marked the end of an era on Haddon Ave—a stretch that’s become one of South Jersey’s most competitive and closely watched dining corridors.
But the space isn’t staying quiet for long, as just weeks later, the restaurant is preparing to reopen as Duo Restaurant & Bar, a new concept from the team behind Il Villaggio Restaurant & Bar.
And in a full-circle moment, the new owners weren’t just restaurateurs looking for expansion—they were longtime Keg & Kitchen customers themselves.
A Thoughtful Transition After 15 Years
Keg & Kitchen wasn’t rushed out the door; the former owners had reportedly been considering retirement for some time and were deliberate about finding the right group to take over the business.
That group ended up being two sets of brothers—hence the name “Duo”—who were already familiar with both the space and the Haddon Avenue dining scene. Fans of the area’s foodie energy, they moved quickly once the opportunity became available.
Renovations began almost immediately, with upgrades to the kitchen, bar, and dining room already underway.
What Duo Is Bringing to the Table
While some core elements are staying the same, the food concept is shifting. Duo will focus on scratch-made, Italian-inspired cuisine under a chef-driven model. Early details suggest a menu featuring:
- Oysters and octopus carpaccio
- Grilled calamari
- House-made lamb ravioli and gnocchi
- Filet mignon and premium meat cuts
- Seasonal seafood, including tuna and swordfish sourced from Long Beach Island
The bar program is also getting a refresh. The 18 craft beer taps are staying—a key detail for longtime Keg patrons—but the cocktail list is expanding with an emphasis on old fashioneds, mules, margaritas, and signature house drinks.
Importantly, much of the existing Keg & Kitchen staff is expected to remain, meaning familiar faces behind the bar and in the dining room.
Why This Matters for Haddon Ave
Haddon Avenue, which runs through both Haddon Township and neighboring Collingswood and Haddonfield, has evolved into one of Camden County’s strongest restaurant rows. Its walkability, PATCO access, and dense lineup of independent eateries make it a destination not just for locals, but for diners coming in from across South Jersey and even Philadelphia.
Restaurant turnover on Haddon Ave isn’t uncommon—but concept shifts are closely watched. Longtime staples carry emotional weight, especially ones that operated for over a decade and a half.
Duo’s success will likely hinge on balancing evolution with familiarity: keeping the neighborhood feel while introducing a more elevated, Italian-inspired identity.
What’s Next
Duo Restaurant & Bar is targeting a late February official opening, although word on social media shows they're undergoing a soft opening from February 25th onwards.
For Haddon Township, this isn’t just a reopening—it’s the next chapter of a high-visibility corner on one of South Jersey’s most competitive dining strips. The bigger question now: will Duo become the new go-to on the Ave, or will longtime Keg fans take some convincing?
Either way, Haddon Ave just added another player to an already packed restaurant lineup—and in this town, that’s always worth watching.
