Where the Work Is Happening
The first phase is centered around the intersection of Haddon Avenue and Cuthbert Boulevard, with work extending along Haddon Avenue between Strawbridge Avenue and Bryant Avenue.
According to Camden County, drivers should expect daily lane closures Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Certain turns may also be temporarily restricted or detoured as construction progresses.
So if Haddon Avenue is part of your normal commute, a little extra travel time may be worth planning for.
What Is the $3.5 Million Project Improving?
This isn’t simply a repaving project.
The broader Haddon Avenue Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project includes traffic signal upgrades at four intersections:
- Collings Avenue
- Cuthbert Boulevard
- Crystal Lake Avenue
- Maple Avenue
Pedestrian facilities around those intersections will also be improved.
According to NBC Philadelphia, the work is intended to improve pedestrian safety along one of the area’s most heavily traveled corridors.
The initial construction at Cuthbert Boulevard includes repairs to deteriorated pavement, while additional signal and pedestrian improvements are expected as the project progresses.
More Work Is Coming in 2027
This first six-to-eight-week construction period isn’t the entire project.
After the initial work is completed, the remaining stages are scheduled to begin in spring 2027.
Camden County is completing the project with support from Collingswood and Haddon Township.
That means residents should expect this to be a longer-term improvement to the Haddon Avenue corridor rather than a single construction project completed this fall.
Why Haddon Avenue Matters
Haddon Avenue isn’t just a road connecting several South Jersey communities.
It’s one of the defining corridors running through Collingswood and Haddon Township, connecting residential neighborhoods with restaurants, coffee shops, independent businesses, PATCO stations and community destinations.
Walkability is also a major part of everyday life in these communities.
Projects that improve crossings, signals and pedestrian infrastructure can make it easier for residents to move between neighborhoods and the businesses along the corridor.
There may be some temporary inconvenience while construction is underway, but the larger goal is a safer Haddon Avenue for pedestrians and drivers.
